About Pete Downes
Pete Downes is a British guitarist, composer, and educator known for his work in modern jazz fusion and ambient music. He has built a reputation for blending diverse influences, ranging from jazz and classical composers such as J.S. Bach to contemporary guitarists including Pat Metheny, Jeff Beck, and Ralph Towner.
Downes is best known as the leader of the Pete Downes Trio (PD3), a group that performs original compositions alongside inventive reinterpretations of popular songs. The trio has appeared widely on the UK jazz circuit and at major festivals, attracting attention from music critics and outlets such as Jazzwise, Jazz FM and The Guardian.
In addition to his work as a performer, Downes has recorded and arranged music for guitar, including interpretations of classical works such as Bach’s lute and cello suites, which he approaches with a contemporary rhythmic sensibility influenced by jazz and groove-based music. He is also active as a teacher and composer, sharing his knowledge through recordings, publications, and educational materials for guitarists.
Through his recordings, live performances, and teaching, Pete Downes has established himself as a distinctive voice in modern guitar music, noted for combining technical skill with a broad musical perspective.
